Those Sneaky Paradigms

If you've ever found yourself instinctively reacting in a certain way - saying certain things, giving into certain habits, or making certain choices - only to ask yourself later, “Why did I do that?” or “How did I get here?”…. that's evidence of your paradigms at work behind the scenes.

Paradigms are simply habits of thinking, beliefs you hold about the way the world works.  You may have acquired these beliefs from your parents or other authority figures while you were growing up, or from experiences you’ve had throughout your life right up until the present.

Paradigms exist to preserve the status quo.  They speak to you whenever you begin to imagine a more expansive version of your current life. They create a powerful limiting mindset that change is at best uncomfortable or even dangerous.  Even worse, they convince you that if you try to step outside your comfort zone you will surely fail.

Paradigms work full time in the background of your mind like a computer virus, and they can easily trap you into giving up on your dreams without your even realizing why.  The good news is that you don’t have to stay stuck where you are.  You can upgrade your beliefs to match your current and future goals. The catch is, a paradigm won’t change by itself – you, and only you, must do it. But where do you start?

The first step is to disengage your awareness "autopilot", and start noticing when you feel a resistance to something new. If you begin to feel uncomfortable, in doubt or conflicted, it’s a sign that your paradigm is kicking in, trying to pull you back with all the force of gravity toward the familiar.

Your current conditions perfectly reflect what you believe to be possible for yourself. Static beliefs that keep you from taking action on your dreams make for a less than fulfilling life. But remember you always have the option of changing the program. Start examining your paradigms today, and question whether or not they still serve the interests of your higher self.

Pay Attention To Your Thoughts

I’ve heard it said that some people live ninety years and others live one year ninety times. The difference is that those living their years to the fullest are intentionally living their dreams. We are all capable of living our dream lives when we realize that there is power within each of us greater than any circumstance we may encounter.

To access that great inner power, we need to go beyond our five senses and allow our intuition, imagination, and perception to guide us. The truth is that our dream life begins in our thoughtsThe results we manifest in physical form are determined by the quality of those thoughts and ideas.

Universal Spirit is ever seeking our greatest good.  In seeking to deliver that good, it interprets our attention as our intention.  It will therefore always give us more of whatever we focus our attention on. If we focus our thoughts on what we don’t want to happen, negative circumstances will seem to “magically” appear and expand in our lives.  For example, if you want to lose weight and then concentrate on not eating pizza, you’ll probably find yourself craving pizza and eventually giving in to temptation.

Fortunately, the same thing happens if we focus on the good things we want to create instead of on the bad things we want to avoid. Using the weight loss example, if you think about the delicious salad you’re going to have for dinner, rather than about the pizza you want to give up, you’re more likely to stick to your diet and meet your weight loss goal almost effortlessly.  This is true even if you work in a pizza parlor!

Each of us is the author of our own thoughts. The past or present does not need to dictate the future. You alone have the power within you to consciously direct your attention. By filling your mind with what you would like to be and do and create and give, you are intentionally writing the future in a way that supports your dreams.

Your Powerful Internal GPS

Many famous people from all walks of life have sworn by the value of intuition.  Abraham Lincoln had a strong interest in dreams and their meanings. He told a friend about a disturbing dream of his own death only 3 days before he was assassinated.  Charles Howard, a Buick salesman, followed his “gut instinct” when he purchased a knobby-kneed, underweight racehorse with a losing record.  Four years later, he was owner of America’s all-time racing prizewinner – Seabiscuit.  Steve Jobs, the legendary founder of Apple, regularly consulted the inner guidance of his heart and intuition. The inspiration he received gave rise to products and technologies that transformed the world.

We have been trained to look at conditions to determine what the opportunities and possibilities are for our lives. These conditions can be limiting when viewed with our five physical senses alone.  Intuition is one of six powerful mental faculties we can use to access our genius mind.

We all have an inner voice, but it is not one of reason or logic.  While it may not make sense to anyone else, it is there to help us recognize and nurture the thoughts that build our dreams.  But how do we tune into this inner voice of intuition in today’s hectic and distracted world?

The best way is to regularly make time for silent reflection. Whenever you practice solitude, you activate your super conscious mind and trigger your intuition. Aristotle said that wisdom comes from a combination of experience and reflection. The more often you make time to quietly think about your experiences, the more vital lessons you will learn from them.

Going for a walk or exercising for about 30 minutes can also help to turn up the volume of that “still, small voice” and allow valuable insights and solutions to emerge.

We are all capable of living our best lives when we open up to our full range of mental faculties. Harness the power of intuition to write your future in a way that supports your dreams.

Can you recall a time when you received valuable guidance from your intuition?  Maybe you had a “gut feeling”, got a flash of insight, noticed a series of uncanny coincidences, or even heard an inner voice giving you advice.  Share your experiences with your internal GPS here.

The Choice Paradox - Don’t Let Appearances Fool You

Take a moment and consider just how many big decisions you’ve made in your life. Most likely, you'll be able to count them on one hand.  The number of small choices - the everyday ones we hardly think about - always dwarfs the big ones.

The choice paradox states that the biggest impact on your life will come from the smallest decisions you make.  As Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous sleuth, observed, “It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important.”

You may not realize it but you are constantly choosing the life you see around you, whether actively by design or passively by default.  All choices, even the ones that appear insignificant, matter.  This is because each decision you make, from how you begin your day, to the food you eat, the company you keep, the words you speak and actions you take, sets in motion a flow of energy that eventually manifests results in your physical world.

Choice is the simple secret to creating a life of your own design. And here lies its real magic - choice moves you out of victimization into personal power

You may not be able to change the immediate conditions around you, but you can always choose your response to them. Whenever you exercise your power to choose, you assert your individual freedom. You essentially write your own rules for living, rules that call forth your highest and best self and help you rise above circumstances.

The more you practice conscious decision making, the more empowered you become in every area of life. Every choice you make, no matter how small, invites a new flow of energy in your life, one that moves you forward and creates ripple effects throughout your world.

Can you think of some small decisions you made that produced big results?  Please share them below - I’d love to hear about your experience.
